Change Sender ID to alphanumeric value

Michael Mardahl

If possible it would be nice to be able to change the sender ID to an alphanumeric value so the recipient cant reply to the message, and the sender name allows you to identify which system you have sent the message from instead of having to put that info into the text message. So if I have my customer portal send out password resets, I can change the sender name to "Customer Reset" and if its alerts from my servers it could read "Server Alerts".
Hope this makes sense.

Hello Michael,

This is a nice idea, however there are certain limitations that won't allow to make it. SMSEagle devices use GSM/UMTS protocol to pass SMS messages to cellular operator. Due to security reasons GSM protocol doesn't allow to modify sender ID. And this limitation makes sense - just imagine the world where everyone could alter senderID to any desired string. You can only change SenderID when you have signed a special agreement with cellular operator and have a digital line using SMPP protocol established with your cellular operator.

Hmm Sender ID can be use now in this year to whatever you want to be. For example twilio, nexmo etc. Will be this problem integrated to your modem?
