Oauth support for SMS2Email

Damian Dancer

Oauth support for SMS2email. Microsoft have announced that basic auth for SMTP will start to be disabled from 01/03/2026 with it being fully deprecated by 30/04/2026. At this point without oauth support we will be unable to use SMS2email which is critical to our workflow.

Migrated from the SMSEagle UserReport forum (2026-03-04). Legacy status: Being implemented.

Hi Damian. On Jan 27, 2026 Microsoft has published an update to SMTP AUTH Basic Authentication Deprecation Timeline. Here is the most up-to-date information:
- To December 2026: SMTP AUTH Basic Authentication behavior remains unchanged.
- End of December 2026: SMTP AUTH Basic Authentication will be disabled by default for existing tenants. Administrators will still be able to enable it if needed.
- New tenants created after December 2026: SMTP AUTH Basic Authentication will be unavailable by default. OAuth will be the supported authentication method.
- Second half of 2027: Microsoft will announce the final removal date for SMTP AUTH Basic Authentication.

TLDR; The final removal date for SMTP AUTH Basic Authentication will be announced in second half of 2027. We have this feature already in our backlog. It will be released the latest on Dec.2026.

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. We hadn't received that update from our Exchange Admin so I will be sure to let the know. Look forward to the software update later in the year.
